Arrive in Oshkosh with the Mooney Caravan
- Be sure to bring secure tie down equipment for the North 40. Although they can be rented on the N40, best to invest in your own. See the section on the EAA website about tiedown options.
- Be sure to have wheel boards (such as cutting boards or shelves) to park your plane on in the N40. It will rain at some point and having boards will prevent your aircraft from sinking into the ground and be a challenge to tub to the taxi lane for starting. Do not start your aircraft in the camping slot, move it to the taxi lane to start. Be respectful of your prop wash blowing on other tents.
- Immediately after securing your plane, visit the EAA tent to pay for plane camping. Even if you're not staying for long, or even if you're overnighting in a hotel, EAA insists that all airplanes parked in the North 40 pay their camping fee. Take care of it right away after arrival.
- Secure your flight controls to prevent damage from strong gusty winds.
- It is quite possible that we will have at least one significant storm during our stay in the N40. Learn how to set up your tent properly. It is strongly recommended that you secure your tent to terra firma with good tent stakes at each attachment point on the bottom of the tent. Additionally, use the guy rope attachment points on the tent to properly secure the tent for winds up to 60 mph. If you have any questions, seek out a competent outdoorsman for suggestions. Expect the winds in a storm event to be blowing from the west to north. Thus, it is recommended that you set up the tent so the entrance facing east to south.
- Be sure that there are no objects that can blow away during the storm. Secure everything before you leave your campsite . That includes closing all tent windows and doors if there is any chance of a storm.
- Set up OSH Alerts on your phone. This will inform you of potentially dangerous storms.
